Matrix MC5 Controller

Dual-channel smart controller for large-scale LED & HID lighting — with live temperature, humidity, VPD, and CO₂ monitoring on a full-color touchscreen.

The Matrix MC5 is a two-channel smart controller built for commercial indoor and outdoor cultivation. Each channel independently drives up to 100 Matrix fixtures or ballasts — LED or HID — with manual or scheduled dimming, per-stage spectrum tuning, sunrise/sunset ramping, and end-of-day far-red. Its onboard sensors surface room temperature, humidity, VPD, and CO₂ right on the dashboard, and auto-dim / auto-shutdown protect the canopy if the room runs too hot. No app, no cloud — schedules save directly to the unit.

What the MC5 Does

The Matrix MC5 is a dual-channel smart controller designed for large-scale lighting control across indoor and outdoor grows. It supports both LED fixtures and HID (HPS) ballasts, and each of its two channels independently drives up to 100 Matrix fixtures. Rather than a basic timer, the MC5 gives every zone genuine intelligence: independent intensity, spectrum, scheduling, and protection — all from one full-color touchscreen.

Channel 2 can either follow Channel 1 (mirroring intensity, spectrum, UV, far-red, and schedule) or run fully independent, so a single unit can drive two rooms or two crop stages on different programs. Fixtures connect over RS-485 (up to 100 per channel) or 0–10V (up to 80 per channel) using RJ12 daisy-chain cabling — no app, no cloud account, and no proprietary software. Schedules are created, saved, and run directly on the controller.

Environmental Monitoring & Canopy Protection

The MC5 turns the controller into a room monitor. Its included temperature/humidity sensor feeds live temperature, humidity, VPD, and CO₂ to the dashboard (a CO₂ sensor is sold separately), so operators can read canopy conditions without a separate meter. Two safeguards run on top of that data: Auto-Dim steps the lights down when room temperature climbs past a set threshold, and Auto-Shutdown cuts the fixtures entirely if it keeps rising — protecting the crop from heat stress during an HVAC failure or a hot afternoon.

Spectrum, Scheduling & Spray Mode

With adjustable-spectrum Matrix fixtures (VEGA, Hybrid, and M Dyna), the MC5 tunes the light recipe by growth stage — a spectrum slider from seedling through late flower, plus independent UV and Far-Red intensity channels. Sunrise/Sunset ramping eases fixtures on and off over a set number of minutes, and end-of-day far-red can run on its own schedule after main lights-off to drive flowering signals. Spray Mode temporarily drops intensity for safe IPM and foliar work, then returns to program. Fixed-spectrum fixtures (DE HPS, M-series) get straightforward intensity and schedule control on the same interface.

How It Fits a Commercial Build

In a Matrix room, the MC5 is the lighting brain. One unit handles a full daisy-chain over RJ12, mounts to the wall with the included magnetic iron plate or expansion screws, and runs on a standard 100–240V adapter. For facilities standardizing SOPs across multiple rooms, schedules and spectrum recipes are saved on the unit — documented and repeatable rather than dependent on manual dial positions. For any Matrix Hybrid or adjustable-spectrum deployment, the MC5 is the control layer that unlocks dimming, spectrum, and scheduling; it belongs on the fixture quote from day one. HSC supplies the MC5 alongside the full Matrix lineup nationally to licensed cannabis and hemp operators.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many fixtures can one MC5 control?

The MC5 has two independent channels, and each channel drives up to 100 Matrix fixtures or ballasts over RS-485 (or 80 on a 0–10V line) — so a single unit can manage up to roughly 200 fixtures across two zones. Fixtures connect in series with RJ12 daisy-chain cabling.

What environmental data does the MC5 display?

Live temperature, humidity, and VPD show right on the dashboard from the included temperature/humidity sensor, and CO₂ is displayed when the optional CO₂ sensor (sold separately) is connected. On top of that data, Auto-Dim lowers output when the room gets too warm and Auto-Shutdown cuts the lights if temperature keeps climbing — protecting the canopy from heat stress.

Can the MC5 tune spectrum and far-red?

Yes, with adjustable-spectrum Matrix fixtures (VEGA, Hybrid, M Dyna). You get a stage-based spectrum slider plus independent UV and Far-Red intensity, Sunrise/Sunset ramping, and end-of-day far-red on its own schedule. Fixed-spectrum fixtures (DE HPS, M-series) get intensity and schedule control on the same screen.

Which fixtures work with the MC5, and can the two channels run differently?

The MC5 is purpose-built for the full Matrix lineup — VEGA, DE HPS, Hybrid, M-series, and M Dyna — and controls both LED and HID. Channel 2 can either follow Channel 1 or run fully independent, so one unit can drive two rooms or two crop stages on separate programs. It does not control third-party fixtures.

Does the MC5 require an app or cloud connection?

No. The MC5 is a standalone touchscreen controller. Schedules, spectrum recipes, and dimming settings are programmed and saved directly on the unit — no app, subscription, or internet connection required for normal operation.
